My sweet little boy turned two at the end of the summer. He is constantly following around my husband with his tools “fixing” things all around the house, so I knew he would love a construction themed party! I spent time at Home Depot getting acquainted with all kinds of tools and things that I didn’t even realized existed. While planning the party I really wanted to focus on activities for the kids. My son, like most little boys, is active and I really wanted him and his little friends to be able to play hard. I was also hoping that the adults could come and enjoy dinner and catch up with friends while their kids played with different activity stations. It took some planning but I feel like we had a great balance of the kids playing and the adults hanging out.
My husband was extremely kind and handmade this saw horse for the party…I thought it was the perfect way to welcome our friends!
I made custom banners for each activity station. There were three stations set up around our backyard and the kids were able to do each activity independently. I really just set them up and without giving the kids any instruction I just watched to see how the kids would play at each station. It is so fun to see how creative they are! The first station was a digging table. I had three plastic containers that we filled up with three different types of “material”…I would call it all sand but my husband would quickly correct me! The kids had shovels and cars & trucks of different sizes to play with.
The next station was a hammering station. I had plastic hammers out along with plastic golf tees and blocks of styrofoam. The kids had so much fun hammering away!
The last activity was the one that I think the kids enjoyed the most…it was a building station. I purchased boxes of various sizes from Home Depot and simply stacked them in the backyard. My husband asked me what the kids were going to do with them and my response was “We will see”. I think kids have so much fun exploring and discovering their environments so all we had to do was wait and see what they would do with all the boxes. They built towers and knocked them down, they stacked them and then one of the older kids built a fort for them to play in.
My son had a smile on his face the entire party! I will post tomorrow about all the little details from the party.
